Can I Date A Much Younger Person

Yes, You Can Date a Younger Woman!

As a man who is middle aged or older, you may have found that you are attracted to a woman who is much younger than you are.  You are likely hesitant in embarking on a relationship with this woman because of the enormous stigma attached to relationships between older men and younger women.  Certainly you have heard the talk:  She is just after his money; he looks ridiculous; does he not know how old he is?

However, if what you have with this younger woman is truly something special and carries a deeper meaning than sexual attraction, there is truly no reason why the two of you should not be together.  Be prepared for the talk, though; it is likely to continue.

Advantages to Dating Younger Women

There are more benefits to dating a younger woman than just being seen with her.  In fact, you may find that your relationship is a catalyst to an improvement in your overall health and fitness.  As we grow older, the tendency is to slow down.  We stop playing softball on Tuesday nights and choose to stay in on Saturday evenings and watch television.

A younger woman, however, still has energy; she goes bowling every weekend and enjoys an occasional ski trip.  You are not just trying to keep up with her; her energy and active nature give you the incentive to stay active as well, and this is good for your heart, your weight, and general good health.

Older men and younger women often mesh well because, overall, women mature faster than men do.  This means that s woman sometimes has trouble finding a suitable partner their own age, because while she is becoming more mature and responsible, her male counterpart may still be using a beer bong with friends in the garage.  She finds that an older man is more mature, not just in years but in behavior and outlook as well.  He has sewn his oats, if you will, and, while he still has a desire to have fun, he is no longer the daredevil he once was.  Additionally, he can offer the stability of a thought out financial plan and an established home life that she probably desires, and that most men her own age cannot provide.  Additionally, as a woman grows older, she has fewer and fewer prospects because men tend to die earlier than women.  This opens up a woman’s mind to less conventional relationships.

How to Handle the Critics

You will have critics, and they will come from every corner of your life.  Your parents, your children, your friends, and your ex-wife will all have something to say.  This is going to be difficult for both of you to handle at times.  However, the answer is a simple one.  Live your life and get past it.  Just like in middle school, if you ignore the teasing, it will eventually fade away.   Remember that you have a carefully developed equation on your side.  Feasibly, a man can have a happy, successful relationship with a woman whose age is equal to or greater than 2/3 of his age minus 6.  In other words, a man of 60 can date a woman as young as 34.

Keep the communications open with your spouse or lover.  Be sure you know where she stands on the relationship and the stigma attached.  She may be madly in love with you, but this does not mean that she is able to ignore pressures she may be getting from friends, her family, and even her coworkers.  If you pretend that the pressures are not there or that they do not bother you, your relationship will bear the brunt of the damage.

Keeping it Strong

A relationship based on the fact that you think she is attractive or that she wants to feel financially secure will only flounder and die.  As with any other relationship, your marriage must be based upon a mutual affection and respect that supersedes the age difference; it should feel as though the two of you would be together no matter how old each of you is.  In other words, your relationship should be successful not because you are dating a younger woman, but because you are dating someone you care deeply about and who cares about you in return.

What You Can Do to Keep It Alive

Any couple, no matter the age, must take steps often to keep their relationship fresh.  A relationship or marriage that is characterized by a substantial age gap will have added pressures, you will want to take added steps to make it work.  As the older member of this couple, you will want to make sure you take good care of yourself.  She has chosen you to be her partner; however, she deserves your efforts to remain attractive for her.  Eat balanced meals and make sure you are eating lots of fruits and vegetables, as well as lean meats and foods that are high in fiber.  This will help you keep your weight in check, and keep your body and heart healthy.  Add a supplement to ensure that you are getting the proper vitamins and minerals each day.

Exercise is very important as well.  As we get older, it becomes more difficult to maintain lean muscle mass.  Regular workouts will help you achieve this.  You may choose to join a gym, take up a walking regimen, start jogging, or join a softball or volleyball league.  Remember that staying in shape does not have to be a chore.  Find something you and your partner can do together, or choose an activity that can double as your guys’ night out.

Even if you are confident in your relationship and in the fact that your partner loves you just the way you are, you will find that if you are healthier, you will both enjoy more from your relationship and it will hold its vitality longer; remember that like it or not, you are the older member of this couple, and you will show signs of aging that will change the course of your lives together.  You can curb these and sometimes prevent them altogether by taking care of yourself, and your spouse will see that you are doing these things for her and for the two of you, and she will see how much the relationship means to you.  It will be a win win situation; you will be healthier, and you and your partner will be happier for the effort.

  1. I think people can date anyone they want. The body is what determines your age, not a number or a date on a calendar. My wife is 13 years younger than me and we get along much better than anyone our own age.
