| Easy Steps To Slow Down Many Aging Symptoms! |
 |
For centuries, philosophers, explorers, and alchemists have tried to
find ways to make people younger, and sometimes even immortal, to boot. Well,
today’s scientists are still at it. They may not be looking for the Fountain of
Youth or trying to manufacture the Philosopher’s Stone, but many are still
intrigued about the ways in which we can either hold on to some aspects of our
youthfulness over the years, or hurtle ourselves closer towards old age before
our time.
Just recently, a group of researchers in the United Kingdom finished up a
decades-long study of over three hundred test subjects. These individuals all
had similar incomes and lifestyles, but differed in four factors: diet,
frequency and intensity of exercise, alcohol intake, and smoking habits (if
any). The conductors of the study felt they could reasonably attribute a great
deal of the differences in the health of the various individual subjects to how
they fell into “healthy” or “unhealthy” categories with regards to the four
factors mentioned above.
Now, it is appropriate to discuss the researchers’ “cutoffs” for
healthiness/unhealthiness in the various lifestyle factors. To them, a healthy
diet was one that included three small servings of vegetables or fruits per day,
and two and a half hours of exercise per week. In other words, people did not
have to sacrifice their work or go to great lengths to stick to a strict,
expensive diet. As to drinking, two drinks for a woman and three drinks for a
man per day were still considered acceptable or healthy. Therefore, people whose
regular social or work-related gatherings included a little alcohol-drinking
could still qualify as having tolerably healthy drinking habits.
At the end of twenty years, a good proportion of the subjects had died or
become sicklier. It was concluded that the ones with unhealthy habits were more
likely to have died during the study. The unhealthy “survivors” of the study
also looked a great deal older than their contemporaries with healthier habits.
Sometimes, the perceived age difference was as much as twelve years.
What this study seems to show is that your overall health and youthfulness
are greatly impacted by your habits. Your choices do affect how your body ages.
Also, it is possible for you to improve your health, even if you do not change
your budget much (remember that the test subjects, whether healthy or unhealthy,
had similar income levels).
In conclusion, aging gracefully and in a healthy manner is within range for
most “regular” people with reasonable incomes and living in peaceful
circumstances. It does not involve taking dodgy concoctions, or journeying to
some Terra Incognita for a fabled cure. Rather, it simply involves sticking to a
few small rules in your day-to-day life. Adjusting your lifestyle habits can add
several years to your life, and make you look and feel younger when others your
age are already feeling completely worn out. Take a look at your present habits,
and see if you can tweak them a bit in order to improve your health.
