HGH Releaser Now Available As Food
Supplements?
Many sports officials have been raising concerns that human growth hormone (HGH)
releasers are now being used by many athletes to improve their physical
abilities and consequently enhance their performance. In the past, synthetic HGH
was being touted as a performance-enhancing substance that athletes may take.
Synthetic HGH has been found to perform several functions such as improving
muscle mass while enhancing the body’s capacity to recuperate from strenuous
activities.
In a story published by USA Today, it was revealed that HGH releasers not only
perform functions similar to those of synthetic HGH substances, but it is also
more difficult to detect. This is aside from the fact that HGH releasers are
cheaper compared to synthetic HGH. These are the probable reasons why fears of
HGH releasers use among athletes are growing each passing day.
And while pharmaceutical HGH releasers are available in the market, food
supplements containing HGH releasers can also be had for a couple of dollars,
according to USA Today. Some of these products are Ageless Foundation and GH
Stak.
Prevalence Of HGH Releasers
Travis Tygart, who is the CEO of the US Anti-Doping Agency, told USA Today that
these products become more visible during big athletic events like the Olympics
and Super Bowl. He said that these products were delivered directly to athletes
in 2004, and that it could have been the same in 2008.
USA Today also notes that since the HGH releasers are in the form of amino
acids, these products are not considered illegal as per the World Anti-Doping
Agency.
The publication cites the statement of WADA spokesman Frederic Donze who stated
that HGH experts who were consulted by WADA expressed belief that amino acid
products do not stimulate the release of HGH in the body, and cause doping
effect on a person.
Main ingredient Of HGH Releasers
But USA Today also cited a study by Prof. J.A. Kanaley of Syracuse University
which showed that the main ingredient in most food supplements containing HGH
releasers, Arginine, can help in the production of HGH when administered orally.
The study, however, said the effects may not be long-lasting.
WADA’s Gary Wadler, on the same story, indicated that for a person to get
sustained HGH boost from food supplements, one should take massive quantities
which can result to side effects like upset stomach and diarrhea.
No crackdown yet On HGH Releasers
But what is alarming is that there has been no crackdown on a manufacturer of a
food supplement containing HGH releaser since 1999, according to the Food and
Drug Administration as reported by USA Today. FDA spokesman Susan Cruzan told
the publication that they look at food supplements on a case-per-case basis.
