The type of chemical peels are different based on how deeply the chemicals penetrate your skin.

Superficial peels- Superficial peels are the weakest of all peels and can be used on all skin types. A liquid containing a mild (dilute) acid is usually used, often times glycolic acid is used and sometimes dry ice.

Medium peels- Medium peels penetrate more layers of the skin, and cause second degree burn. This peel can also be done several times.

Deep peels- Deep peels penetrate several layers of the skin, and cause second degree burn. The difference is this peel can only be done once and only on the skin. This peel can also cause skin bleaching, even on light skinned people.

Why are you considering a peel? A deep peel is really only done in the case of serious scarring that is to be lightened for cosmetic purposes. Light scarring or blemishes can be taken care of with shallower peels, which are safer and often less expensive.

Hi,
I know a girl who got one and it worked for her acne scars, but I would never do it because of all the risks.
