#15589 We all want to lose weight to improve our health and to slow down signs of aging. Most of us are on this forum to learn about supplements that will help us with weight loss, improving muscle tone, and anti-aging. Well, the usual advice of "you can eat all the fruits and vegetables you want" may not be true for those of us who need to drop a few pounds.
Fruits are high in sugar. Of course this is natural sugar, but we all know what too much sugar of any kind can do: blood sugar highs that come crashing down make you tired, cranky, and hungry. This can tempt you to binge on unhealthy carbs, or skip your workout from exhaustion.
Fruits and berries are best eaten in moderation, accompanied by protein to stabilize blood sugar. Of course, if you're craving something sweet, a handful of berries still beats a candy bar any day!
So: relying too heavily on fruit may not be a good thing when trying to lose weight!

#19059 I read something the other day...
about how fruit isn't really natural anymore, because for thousands of years we have been breeding the "best" (aka sweetest) fruit plants and trees, so fruit today has tons and tons more sugar now than it did back when we were hunter-gatherers. Fruit is way less healthy today than what our ancestors ate because it has more sugar and less fiber!
Isn't that weird? Fruit isn't as healthy as it was meant to be...

#19143 Nothing is the same as what our ancestors ate, that's for sure! All the fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains and livestock that we rely on were bred for taste (re: sugars, starches, and fats) for thousands of years, and now the species are all unrecognizable compared to back then. That's why even people who eat very healthily can still have health problems.

#23461 Wow! This is fascinating! Even the most vegan, organic food is still waaay altered from how it was meant to be thousands of years ago because of all the selective breeding we humans have been doing. It's like we've been writing our own death sentences from obesity for thousands of years!
