Makeup Do’s and Don’ts for a Younger Look

There comes a time in our lives when we look in the mirror and realize we are not as young as we used to be.  This does not mean that we have to tolerate looking old.  There are many non invasive steps we can take, using the highly advanced lotions and creams, cosmetics and other products available, to help decrease the signs of aging and regain our youthful appearances.  However, taking the wrong steps can lead to our looking older instead of younger.  Follow a few simple do’s and don’ts to ensure you get the results you desire.

DO Use an Eye Cream

Under Eye Moisturizer

Under eyes makeup

Even if you have no concerns regarding aging or skin care, an eye cream is a must.  The skin around your eye is thin and fragile and requires special care to prevent and later to slow the signs of aging.  Look for a cream that contains vitamins that will help to nourish the skin rather than one that simply disguises lines and wrinkles.  In the long run, you will have fewer issues and will look younger even with no makeup on.

DO Use a Moisturizer

Like the eye cream, this is a necessary ritual to be done every day.  So much of what we do every day dries out our skin, from showering in the morning, to walking in the sun and the wind, to sitting in a smoky restaurant.  Your skin will develop wrinkles and age more quickly if it is left dry, with no product to treat it and nourish it between these events and activities.

DON’T Layer on the Makeup to Hide Wrinkles and Blemishes

If you are looking in the mirror and identifying problem areas you would like to hide, you are not alone.  However, slathering on concealer and foundation to cover these areas will not give you the results you desire.  Thick, heavy makeup looks like exactly that:  thick, heavy makeup.  It will actually make you look older and will give you the appearance of someone who is trying to cover something up.  Choose a lightweight concealer and dab it on undereye circles and other blemishes; it is not necessarily effective on wrinkles or lines.  Choose a foundation that is also lightweight and is a shade lighter than your complexion, and blend the two gently.

DON’T Choose Bright Lipstick Colors

Lipstick

With advanced age, your lips become smaller and tighter.  This is only emphasized by the use of bright reds, and corals tend to make you look sallow and worn.  Instead, opt for a natural pink, peach, or brown.  A glossy finish is a pretty addition that will brighten your entire face.  If you are wearing a matte lipstick, place a dab of gloss in the center of your lower lip; this will give your lips an illusion of fullness.

Do Combine Color and Natural Shades

You can definitely still use color, and you can even experience a little, but combine the colors you choose for your eyes with natural shades in your foundation and lips.

  1. I am a man and even I use a good eye cream once in a while. It really helps your eyes look younger and if you don’t get enough sleep like most of us, it will make a visible difference.
