Hair loss that involves a shorter growth phase and shorter, thinner hair shafts can also be caused from irritation of your hair follicles, hair damage, and hormonal changes. Hair LossTo be true, if the shedding rate exceeds the growth cycle, you may be shopping for wigs within a couple of years.

Slowing Down Hair Loss with Natural Remedies

Aging is inevitable, but there are at least ways to stave off its more devastating effects. Just as wrinkles can be treated using wrinkle creams or outright injections with Botox, so too can hair loss. The gradual thinning out of hair may be as unstoppable as the setting sun, but there is at least a way to slow down the process. There are ways to naturally hamper or prevent the effects of hair loss—especially if it’s something that’s caused by things other than aging (like, say, stress or using harmful hair products). Here are just some of those beneficial hair loss remedies:

  • Gooseberry and Coconut Oil Remedy: Boil some gooseberry in coconut oil, sieve the concoction, and apply it on your scalp daily by massaging it unto your hair in a circular pattern.
  • Lime Juice and Coconut Oil: You can also mix lime juice with coconut oil in order to strengthen your hair and prevent it from falling out. You also get the extra bonus of removing dandruff from your hair to boot.
  • Black Gram and Fenugreek Seed Paste: In order to prepare this hair loss concoction, you need to first cook both of the ingredients for a couple of ours. Afterwards, combine the two into a nice paste. This all-natural hair loss remedy is best used on the roots of your hairs with chemical-free shampoo, and it even helps lengthen your hair as well.
  • Fenugreek Seed Paste with Coconut Oil: You can use warm coconut oil as an alternative ingredient to black gram, with cooked fenugreek seed paste as your base. This time around, it’s best that you leave the mixture on your hair of about one hour before washing it off. Repeat this procedure monthly, at least.

Natural Hair Cycle

As one can plainly see, there’s no one particular factor you can blame for the everyday phenomenon known as hair loss. Hair typically undergoes a cycle of rest and growth. How long or short these cycles are will depend on the person having them, so handling them tends to be done on a case-by-case basis. On average, the growth phase of scalp hair (also known as anagen) is two to three years. During this period, the hair gains a centimeter of growth monthly. Afterwards, the resting phase (also known as telogen) happens, and it lasts for only three to four months.

Immediately after the resting phase, the hair strand will naturally be shed and a new one will grow in its place. The cycle then restarts at the growth period for the newly emerging strand of hair.  Under normal circumstances, people shed fifty to a hundred hairs daily. This is perfectly acceptable because there are about a hundred thousand hairs in the scalp, so a hundred hairs lost a day isn’t that big of a deal. However, it does become a problem if those hundred hairs aren’t replaced by new hairs, or if you’re shedding more hair than you’re prepared to replace.
