What is the Right Dose of Resveratrol?
What is Resveratrol?
Resveratrol is a chemical compound that has several astonishing effects. It
is currently being studied as an anti-obesity, blood-sugar regulating, and
anti-aging compound. In fact, a Harvard study found that mice who were fed a
high fat diet which caused them to become obese and suffer from obesity-related
complications like diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure) and high
cholesterol experienced a reversal of all of their symptoms when they started
receiving daily doses of Resveratrol. These positive effects occurred even
though the mice were still eating their high fat diet!

It's no wonder that people are rushing to find Resveratrol supplements: this
could be the compound that lets you indulge in great food without gaining weight
(just like that skinny friend you love to hate!) or suffering from the effects
of a less-than-great diet. Resveratrol can also help you live healthier and
longer, as reported in a study done on fish. These fish, who normally die of old
age at nine weeks, were healthy and strong at nine weeks old when given regular
doses of Resveratrol. These fish literally looked, acted, and scored (on health
related tests) as well as fish that were half their age. In other words, it
would be like a 90 year old with the health, strength, power, vitality, and
looks of a 45 year old! Interested in this “miracle” compound yet? You're not
alone!
Different sources recommend different dosage for Resveratrol!
Of course, when an intelligent person thinks about adding a supplement to his
or her diet, he or she does some serious research first. After all, it's easy
for a company to make a “miracle Resveratrol pill” that only contains a tiny
amount of this amazing compound, and then sell it for full price. You need to
know what you're getting when you plunk down hard-earned money, and you deserve
to know how much Resveratrol should actually be in your supplement in order for
you to see results.
So, how much is the correct dose of Resveratrol? Every site out there will
tell you that the amount of Resveratrol found in their pill is the exact correct
amount, and that any more or any less will have have devastating side effects or
not work at all. Of course they would say that! They're trying to sell their
pills! So you cruise the internet and find one site that tells you 20mg is the
correct amount, another that says 400 mg is the correct amount, and another
telling you it's not the mg that matters, but the purity of the Resveratrol! How
are you supposed to know what to do?
Well the first thing to be suspicious of is when a website claims that
“studies show” and then follows that up with “this substance cures this
disease.” If a substance had been found or created that cured diabetes
overnight, you would have heard about in on TV, on the radio, and in newspapers.
And what “studies” are always being talked about? Are they human studies?
Probably not, because human studies on Resveratrol's life-extending effects have
not yet been done. Think about it: they would have to give people Resveratrol
for their entire lives and wait to see if the people taking it lived longer than
the people not taking it. Such a study would take decades! No, the studies that
show life-extending effects have been done on mice and fish, like the ones
mentioned earlier in this article.
Human studies, have been done, however, that show that
Resveratrol has a blood-sugar regulating effect.
Resveratrol Correct Dosage
Initial studies done on mice suggested that in order to see the beneficial
effects, 22.4mg of Resveratrol per kilogram of body weight needed to be
administered per day. That's the way scientists and doctors figure out dosage,
by the way: it's always by weight. There is no “one size fits all dosage”--how
could there be? How could a 105lb person need the same amount of any medication
or supplement as a 240lb person? It just doesn't make sense, does it? For a
200lb person, the correct dosage of Resveratrol according to this study would be
about 2036mg per day.
That is a lot of Resveratrol! Many people taking that much have reported
unwanted side effects, which stopped after they lowered their doses. So, what
does this mean? How can you get the good effects without the unwanted side
effects? Well, another study used a much lower amount of Resveratrol, and delivered the
doses in a way that made sure the most amount of Resveratrol was able to be used
by the body. The best way to receive many medication or supplements is by
injections, because the compounds avoid being broken down in the stomach before
being released into the bloodstream. The stomach is a powerful organ, and is
capable of changing many chemicals. Unfortunately, it tends to break down
Resveratrol into different compounds that do not have the same effects. Using
injections in mice, this study found results with only 1.74mg per kilogram of
body weight per day. For a 200lb person, that would be the equivalent of
about 158mg per day, which is a much more reasonable dose than 2036mg!
How Can You Get the Maximum Benefit from Resveratrol?
Of course, in many countries it is illegal to sell any sort of supplement in
injectable form. It is never advisable to purchase product illegally, because
unscrupulous people probably wouldn't hesitate to lie and sell you a fake
product that could even be dangerous. There is a way to get Resveratrol into
your system, legally, in a way that does not allow your stomach to destroy most
of it.
Absorbing a medication or supplement through the mouth, rather than
swallowing it, allows more of the active compound to get directly into your
bloodstream. This means that if you get Resveratrol in the correct dosage though
a spray form or a pill that dissolves under your tongue, you will get more
benefit. If you can find a liquid form, simply hold the liquid in your mouth for
2-3 minutes before swallowing. If you prefer to buy Resveratrol in pill form for
whatever reason, the pills can be crushed and dissolved in water, which should
be held in the mouth for 2-3 minutes before swallowing. This ensures that the
proper dosage makes it into your bloodstream, so that you can experience the
maximum effect
Always make sure to research the ingredients and makers of a supplement before
buying!
